Universities

The University of Bonn, the largest and most important institution, forms the heart of the Science Region Bonn. Founded about 200 years ago, the University of Bonn is one of the 10 largest universities in Germany with over 28,000 students (of which 15% are international students), 530 professorial members of staff, 3,000 scientific members of staff and 80 different courses of study to choose from. 

The university’s mission is to provide internationally focused research and its main focus is on subjects such as Life Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economy, Philosophy, Asian Studies, Development Research, Astrophysics, European Studies and Communication and Information Technology.

A number of Universities of Applied Sciences were newly founded in the past few years, facilitated by the expansion of the Science Region Bonn. Among these universities, the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg is the largest, with campuses in Sankt Augustin, Rheinbach and Hennef. 110 professorial members of staff teach and conduct their research there with over 4000 enrolled students. Courses of study such as Computer Sciences, Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, Machine Building, Engineering Journalism or Social Insurances are offered as well as Applied Sciences such as Chemistry, Materials Science and Biology, which are taught in English.

The RheinAhrCampus in Remagen hosts over 1700 students reading disciplines such as Biological or Business Mathematics, Laser- and Medical Technology, Health- and Social Services, Logistics and E-Business as well as Sport Management. 

At the private International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef around 1000 are taking their degrees in courses of study such as Business Administration, Aviation- or Event Management or International Hospitality & Tourism Management, which are all taught in English.

With the five disciplines of Architecture, Sculpture, Fine Arts, Performing Arts and Eurhythmy the Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences offers a unique range of courses of study.
